History

Therefore GO and MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." Jesus of Nazareth

Inspired by these instructions from Jesus in the early 1980s, Bill and Doreen Spletzer began to pray about how they could be more effective in obeying Jesus’ command. As a result, in 1982 they established Manna Ministries International to support extensive church planting overseas, equip individuals to give meaningful leadership to their own people, and to provide opportunities for Christians in Canada to serve as short-term missionaries. Their vision and work has resulted in the establishment of Bible Colleges, Churches, Pastors’ networks, a children’s home, Bible conferences and campaigns, and community development programs that have led to the making of disciples, just as Jesus instructed.

Bill and Doreen Spletzer served as Directors of Manna Ministries until their retirement in 2010.

MMI Ministry Development Timeline

1986 – Manna Ministries International, incorporated as a Charitable Society

1987 – First missionary trip to Palawan, Phillipines

1989 – Manna’s first Bible College is instituted in Palawan, Phillipines. It has produced Palawan Association of Bible Churches (PABC), consisting of up to 30 churches planted by Manna and led by graduates of Manna Bible College.

1993 – Manna Home for Children opens in Palawan on the same campus as Manna Bible College, with a resident and non-resident program, reaching out to the poor and abandoned children in the community served by PABC.

2004 – Bible Training Program begins in Aija Valley, Peru in partnership with the Huaraz Baptist Church. Two national workers are appointed to work in the Aija Valley for extensive evangelism and discipleship.

2006 – Manna Ministries forms a partnership with India Village Ministries to provide curriculum for India Village Bible College. This led to Manna Ministries helping in the construction of new church buildings and supporting community programs in South Central India.

2008 – Construction of a multi-purpose building begins in Nepal, to house a church, Kinder school, Humanitarian Aid Centre, and eventual Bible College.

2009 – With a vision for reaching to West Bengal (North India) a new Field Director is appointed for Bible Training, Evangelism and Church planting.

2010 – Bill and Doreen Spletzer retire.

Today, Manna Ministries is led by a team of men and women who continue to be inspired by the same vision to make disciples of all nations and to move forward with the vision to impact over one million people with the Gospel by 2020.
